Friday, June 01, 2007 Bobby Flay visits S.A. for a puffy taco throwdown: "...the puffy taco that he created...was like nothing you've ever tasted in a San Antonio restaurant. It was called a Yucatan Chicken Puffy Taco with Peanut-Red Chile-Barbecue Sauce and Red Cabbage Slaw. It was pitted against TreviƱo's classic rendition, which featured spicy shredded chicken, fresh guacamole, lettuce, tomato and a touch of salsa to kick up the heat." Nobody in Texas puts peanuts, Barbecue Sauce or slaw on tacos! Bobby Flay is notorious for taking classic recipes and changing them in the oddest ways on his Food Network show, "Throwdown With Bobby Flay;" so I'm not shocked that he put mint-laced slaw on his puffy tacos. Although his altered recipes yield delicious dishes, they can never be compared to the originals. Not surprisingly, Diana Barrios Trevino won the throwdown with the classic puffy taco recipe. Johnny Depp has signed on for a fourth "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie. Yay! I knew there had to be another movie in the works. After the record-breaking opening weekend of "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End," Disney would have been crazy not to continue the PotC franchise. Song of the moment: "On My Mind," by Kalai. (You can listen to that song and more at Kalai's MySpace page.) Kalai's music is incredible! He reminds me of Amos Lee and Aaron
Neville quite a bit; but he has his own style, as well, which I love. His new album, "Crows Feet," is
definitely at the top of my ever-increasing "CDs to buy" list!
