Ack, I didn't mean to let so much time go by between updates!

It's amazing how quickly this year is passing. I've noticed that it seems as if each year time slips by more swiftly than it did in the last, which doesn't really bother me, as long as I'm accomplishing something and not just sitting still and atrophying. I've done much more this year than I did in 2006, so I'm definitely happier this year.

Speaking of things that make me happy, I was able to figure out what was wrong with the Random Fandom RSS feed and correct it. It had been "broken" for quite a while, which was extremely frustrating. RSS feeds are the lifeblood of podcasts; so if your podcast's feed is not working properly, you're in trouble. Needless to say, I'm very relieved to have solved that problem!

More happy news: The San Antonio Spurs won the 2007 NBA Finals, earning their fourth NBA Championship in nine years. Woot!

After following the Spurs through the whole season, it was wonderful to see them earn another NBA Championship! The things that I especially appreciate about the Spurs, their dedication and teamwork, are what propelled them to the top spot in the NBA, I believe. The Spurs' player's utter lack of selfishness on the court is a perfect example of one of the many reasons why they've won so many Championships recently. They may not be the flashiest of teams, but that is fine with me. You can listen to me talk about the Spurs' victory, along with a bunch of other things, on Random Fandom Show 42 - The Answer to Life, the Universe and Everything.

Song of the moment: "Premier Love," by Tony Parker. So, not only can he play basketball, he can sing, too!

Bridge opens to foot traffic: "Corpus Christi's Harbor Bridge opened for pedestrian use Friday after construction and security concerns during the start of Operation Iraqi Freedom forced its sidewalks to be closed more than four years ago."

Although I've never walked across the Harbor Bridge, I think it's about time they opened it to foot traffic again! From what I've been told, the view of Corpus Christi and the bay from the bridge's apex is lovely. The landscape here in the Coastal Bend is so flat that the bridge most definitely offers the highest vantage point in the area.

Once, I did begin to walk over the bridge, but had to turn back after only making it less than 1/4 of the way across. My fear of heights was compounded by the fact that there was traffic whizzing by at more than 60 MPH mere feet away from me. I'm always up for an adventure; but in that situation, I was basically paralyzed by fear. At that point, I probably would have had to have been dragged by someone to get me to cross the bridge on foot. Oddly enough, I never had any problem driving across it.

Investigators check reports of a haunting: "The first supernatural report came from landscape workers, who asked association members who was the old lady in the upstairs window who waved at them."

I'd have a hard time believing such reports if I and my family hadn't experienced very similar events years ago when living in a house that was built in 1912. Here are a few examples:

  • We often heard an inexplicable phantom ringing that sounded like an old-fashioned telephone.
  • Many times late at night, we'd hear the clickety clack of the keyboard, as if someone were typing; but, of course, the computer wasn't even turned on.
  • Most hair-raising of all, one of my family members once saw an apparition of a stooped old woman dressed in black Victorian-style clothing ascending the stairs to the second floor of our house.

There was other poltergeist-like activity, as well; but I'd rather not get into all the minute details. Needless to say, I was very relieved to move to a newer place with less history!

Quick Spurs update: They're currently up 2 games to 0 against the Cavaliers in the NBA Finals. Great game last night! Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili were amazing, as usual. Next game: Tuesday night in Cleveland.

Woohoo: The San Antonio Spurs earned the Western Conference Championship title in a decisive 109 to 84 victory over the Utah Jazz on Wednesday night! The Spurs are now headed to their fourth NBA Finals, where they will play either the Cleveland Cavaliers or the Detroit Pistons. The Finals begin on Thursday night; and I'll be watching, for sure! For great coverage of the Finals, check out The SpursZone.

Bobby Flay visits S.A. for a puffy taco throwdown: "...the puffy taco that he created...was like nothing you've ever tasted in a San Antonio restaurant. It was called a Yucatan Chicken Puffy Taco with Peanut-Red Chile-Barbecue Sauce and Red Cabbage Slaw. It was pitted against TreviƱo's classic rendition, which featured spicy shredded chicken, fresh guacamole, lettuce, tomato and a touch of salsa to kick up the heat."

Nobody in Texas puts peanuts, Barbecue Sauce or slaw on tacos! Bobby Flay is notorious for taking classic recipes and changing them in the oddest ways on his Food Network show, "Throwdown With Bobby Flay;" so I'm not shocked that he put mint-laced slaw on his puffy tacos. Although his altered recipes yield delicious dishes, they can never be compared to the originals. Not surprisingly, Diana Barrios Trevino won the throwdown with the classic puffy taco recipe.

Johnny Depp has signed on for a fourth "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie. Yay! I knew there had to be another movie in the works. After the record-breaking opening weekend of "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End," Disney would have been crazy not to continue the PotC franchise.

Song of the moment: "On My Mind," by Kalai. (You can listen to that song and more at Kalai's MySpace page.)

Kalai's music is incredible! He reminds me of Amos Lee and Aaron Neville quite a bit; but he has his own style, as well, which I love. His new album, "Crows Feet," is definitely at the top of my ever-increasing "CDs to buy" list!
