I've decided to take a hiatus from eclectica for a while. I'm not sure of the exact time, but probably for a couple weeks. I'll be back, though!
Good places to find interesting/amusing/cool sites to tide you over:
The Presurfer
Metafilter
Quiddity
Fark
Pop Culture Junk Mail
Plus all the links over there --->
Feel free to email me: joannaATSIGNeclecticat.net.

A quick update...
After checking out BuyMusic.com, I did a bit of research and found this. That information makes me wary to try the site out. Anyone out there have good (or bad) things to say about BuyMusic? If you do, please let me know!
Fifteen ways to leave your lover: "Following an Islamic court decision last week that allowed a Malaysian man to serve a divorce on his wife by text message, we review some of the strangest - and cruellest - ways to get shot of that special someone." How cruel some of those ways are!

Sorry for the lack of updates lately. I just haven't felt like blogging this week. I did do a bit of surfing last night, though, so here are some links:
At BuyMusic.com, you can buy whole albums for $10.00 or download individual songs for $0.79-$0.99. I haven't used the site, but I'm seriously considering it.
I'm so glad this is a hoax.
Looks like they used gentian violet on this polar bear suffering from a skin infection.

Playing God: Archives detail California group's eugenics plan. We're often lead to believe that unjust things don't happen in the United States, but some very disturbing and strange things have gone on in our country.

Just archived the June entries here.
I've noticed that people are coming to eclectica looking for Pirates of the Caribbean wallpapers and AIM icons. You can get the wallpapers here and here and the icons here. For good measure, here's a screensaver, too. Enjoy!
More pirate stuff: Pirate Wars, an online game. [via quiddity]
I had no idea there was such a thing as synchronized diving. Apparently, it's going to be part of the 2004 Summer Olympics.
Here's the 2003 Authors' Summer Reading Lists and last year's lists, as well.
I am not into baseball, at all, but think someone out there will like this: Baseball Blogs.

Corpus Christi has been spared the worst of Hurricane Claudette, as it made landfall north of us. We'll be getting tons of rain, though, and gusts of (category one) hurricane-force winds this afternoon. [Local weather, for those of you interested.]
I'll get back to my regular updates as soon as possible.

Update on Tropical Storm Claudette, which is supposed to turn into a hurricane before it makes landfall: It's now predicted to hit the Corpus Christi area on Tuesday night. Looks like an evacuation may be in order. If I don't update for a while, that'll probably be why.
I just discovered snapGallery. I tested it out and it's quite spiffy.
Are you about to travel and absolutely need to stay in a hotel with net access? Well, then, check out GeekTels.
Ah, so these are the people who scooped up eclecticat.com just as I was about to buy it. At least they do have very nice jewellery.

A bit of change: I switched out the logo and changed the colors. The orange was just too summery.
I'm starting to keep track of the books I've read on this page: books.eclecticat.net. It's kind of like a truncated booklog.
I'm keeping a close eye on Tropical Storm Claudette. They're predicting it's going to hit Brownsville, TX, which is about 160 miles south of Corpus Christi. The way the storm is acting makes me think that it's going to head more north, though. But, of course, I'm not a meteorologist.
If the storm does hit Brownsville, we'll get pounded with rain here. I just hope Claudette doesn't turn into a hurricane, both for Brownsville's and Corpus Christi's sakes.

Par-taaay in Vancouver tonight: Vancouver erupts in celebration over hosting 2010 Olympics. That's just what I was hoping to hear!
Songs about libraries and reading. Rock on.
The Google backlash: "The king of search rules the Web -- but now some of the natives are growing restless." I use Google all the time, but I am a bit wary of how the company seems to be growing faster and faster. A bit of competition is good, I think.

"Slow Wave is a collective dream diary authored by different people from around the world, and drawn as a comic strip by Jesse Reklaw."
"WatchBlog is a multiple-editor weblog broken up into three major political affiliations, each with its own blog: the Democrats, the Republicans and the Third Party (covering everything outside the two major parties." The campaigning hasn't even really started and I'm already tired of the hype.
I'm fascinated by this show: Everybody has a Story.
