Someone got to eclectica searching for "manufacture of detergent from pumpkins." Uhm, what?

A new teaser poster for The Two Towers has been released.

This critic hates all bands. Put in a band you hate and you'll totally agree with his opinion! ;)

Ack, these mannequins are the things that nightmares and horror movies are made of! [via the presurfer]

I'm almost embarrassed to admit I've seen six of the Top Eleven Animal Attack Movies.

See how well you can remember a random face in the Memory Game. [via the presurfer]

Duck Tape Creations. Because you always wanted a handbag made from duct tape.

When you say you're going to "Google" something, make sure you mean "to search using Google," or else they'll come after you. (But, anyway, I don't think most people say they're going to "Google" something and then go search on Yahoo or another search engine.)

Currently listening to: Where Is The Love, by the Black Eyed Peas (An awesome song!)

Sorry that I've been MIA for the past week. It's summer; that's my only excuse!

Must not forget. [Read the introduction.]

According to the What Country Are You Quiz, I'm Ireland: "Mystical and rain-soaked, you remain mysterious to many people, and this makes you intriguing." Makes sense, since I'm half Irish. [via The Aardvark Speaks]

I submitted a photo to the Mirror Project. I'd been planning on doing so for a long time, but never got around to it until yesterday.

26 Things: The International Photographic Scavenger Hunt starts on July 1.

Are you a victim of PPMT? "People's anxieties and fears over email etiquette and the inescapable phenomenon of digital blunders has given rise to a new term - pre and post mail tension." [via the presurfer]

Happy Father's Day to all you dads out there!

I've added a new gallery to my photography section: Flora & Fauna, Spring 2003.

Also, here's a new picture of me:

The Automatic Flatterer made me laugh. [via yano]

"Everything is so 5 minutes ago". To that I say: Whatever. Wear what you like, listen to the music that makes you happy, do whatever inspires you, whether most people deem it "cool" or not.

Time Tales is a collection of found photographs from pre-1930 to the present.

Take a trip back in time: See the hottest gadgets of 1983 and visit the Obsolete Computer Museum.

Guide to home computer security.

A Brief History of Fashion. I'd much rather dress as they did in 500 - 146 b.c. than they did in the mid-1800s!

I guess Segways aren't that easy to use, after all.

"Uncle Adam" a surprise guest at graduation.

Looks like you will soon be able to roll like P. Diddy -- if you have an extra $85,000, that is.

Arms around the world: "Indian guru wants to hug every person on the planet."

Scott Radke's marionette puppets are freaky. I know I would have been terrified of them when I was young. Check out his drawings and sand sculptures, too!

Low-down photography. Interesting photography project.

Is cursive obsolete? My handwriting is abysmal, since the only thing I really write are occasional notes and in my paper journal. Typing is just so much faster and easier.

Recipe for ciabatta. Yummy!

I really like these: Journal covers made from recycled book covers.

The Pepys Project is a great 'blog/journal listing site.

Spectacular: Lightning Storm Around the Observatory.

Calendars Through the Ages, an online exhibit.

The Pit Heads: "...faces and objects...are carved from the seeds of fruit such as peach, plum, apricot, olive, sweet cherry, wild cherry and even the seed from the dogwood tree."

Mobs move into 'Sims Online' power vacuum: "An underground group known as the Sims Shadow Government has taken over the fantasy world that is 'The Sims Online,' meting out mob justice."

Flogging Molly rocks. I'd heard of them before, but never actually listened to any of their music - until tonight, that is. I'd describe them as Celtic-influenced punk (They're Irish). An odd combo, I know, but I like it.

A free program that I use all the time and forgot to mention in my entry on Tuesday: EditPad Classic, a text editor. (EditPad Lite is also available.)

Even though it seems like more and more programs online have begun to charge, there are still plenty of free programs. Here are some of the free programs that I use all the time:

Security:

  • AVG Anti-Virus. From what I've experienced, this program works wonderfully.
  • Zone Alarm is a great firewall.
  • Ad Aware, an anti-spyware program.
  • Spybot, another anti-spyware program.

    Music:

  • Music Match. I like MM's interface more than WinAmp's.

    Images:

  • IrfanView, an image viewer/converter.

    Office Suite:

  • Easy Office. Easy Word is especially useful, since it's compatible with Microsoft Word.

    Misc.

  • Powerdesk is much better than Windows Explorer, I think.
  • FTP Explorer is an awesome FTP program. Evrsoft 1st Page: HTML editor. Not WYSIWYG.

Someone found eclectica by searching for "Animal Tricks - water skiing squirrel" on Google. They probably didn't find what they were looking for, since they didn't format their search request to get the best results. A better search query is: "water skiing squirrel," which I used to find these: Water-skiing squirrel steals the show, Twiggy - "The Water-Skiing Squirrel", Water-skiing squirrel heading for boat show. A squirrel on skiis!

I didn't watch the MTV Movie Awards, but I had to see Andy Serkis'/Gollum's acceptance speech for winning Best Virtual Performance. Gollum rocks. You can download the speech here, if you haven't seen it yet. [via mefi]

    MemeStreams, another community weblog.

My links page was horribly out of date, so I revamped and updated it. Check it out: eclectica link portal. I'll add new links as I remember/find them.

Bush revels in cowboy speak. I live in Texas and I've seen real cowboys. President Bush isn't a cowboy, that's for sure.

Medieval hygiene: "...an exhibition in Paris sets out to show that toilet facilities in the Middle Ages may not have been as primitive as previously thought." Not for the squeamish or easily offended. [via quiddity]

Microsoft plays browser games: "Following its recent settlement with AOL, Microsoft has let slip that it will stop making Internet Explorer as a stand-alone product." [via trianide]

Robot Exclusion Protocol: A story about the Google of the future.

SARS outbreak past its peak. I certainly hope so.

Brown Ale icecream? Doesn't seem appetizing to me.

"Worth1000 is the top creative competition and photoshop contest site on the web."

Teens tutor FBI in cyber-slang: "Agents brush up on pop knowledge to catch online predators." Hmm, I wonder if they study with the l33t hax0rz, too?

Neil Gaiman, author of such books as Good Omens and American Gods, has syndicated his journal into a LiveJournal feed. So, if you have a LJ, you can add him to your friends list. Neato.

NBC Wins Rights to 2010, 2012 Olympics: "Eight years ago, NBC pulled off a pre-emptive bid to secure a long-term Olympic deal. This time, it beat the other networks head-on to retain its five-ring monopoly."

The host cities for the 2010 Winter Olympics and 2012 Summer Olympics haven't been selected yet. The host for the 2010 Games will be announced July 2 and the host for the 2012 Games will be announced in 2005. I'm hoping that Vancouver is selected as host fot the 2010 Games.

I decided to update eclectica's layout to something more summery. It's simple, but I like it.

    May entries archived here.

Obsessive Consumption. Kate Bingaman takes photographs and keeps the receipts to everything she buys. Yes, that is obsessive.

Phrenicea: Predicting the ultimate outcome of the internet and biotechnology revolutions.

Dogs in cars. I always feel sorry for dogs left in cars, especially in the summer.

I'm sure most everyone knows about the Internet Archive, but I think it's worth another link: "The Internet Archive is building a digital library of Internet sites and other cultural artifacts in digital form. Like a paper library, we provide free access to researchers, historians, scholars, and the general public."

Freedom of the Internet: "Gone are the days of free access to all content --not just music -- and what lies ahead is an even bleaker picture. Unless we do something about it."

    The FCC, Weblogs, and Inequality.

This is one reason I hardly watch TV anymore. "Reality" TV just keeps getting slimier and slimier.

The art of J.R.R. Tolkien makes great desktop wallpapers. I'm currently using this piece as my wallpaper.

    These are cool: Tolkien fonts.

Apologize to a Cow. Is that a joke? Some of the comments sure make it seem that way.
