I haven't 'blogged anything in over a week -- an eternity in the weblogging world, I know. I just feel the need to take a short break for now. If you link to me, please don't remove your links. I'm not ending Eclectica! I should be back within a week. Thanks for your patience! :)

Get two Everclear songs: Now That It's Over and Annabelle's Song (Live) for free at WindowsMedia.com.

Shawn Fanning, just 19 (my age, heh), created Napster. Here's an interview he did with MTV.

Now that Napster may have to shut down in the near future, a lot of people (including me) are searching for a replacement and Gnutella seems to be that; but it looks tricky to use than Napster, so articles like this are a major help.

More sightings of Ben and Alec at the Lex. Maybe I will head over there some time this week ;)

Weird "news": A man killed his wife because she wouldn't have sex with him. Hmm, maybe she knew he was crazy.

Ben Affleck, Alec Balwin, Josh Hartnett and Thomas W. Brown are filming parts of the new movie Pearl Harbor less than 20 minutes from my house and I haven't even attempted to go check it out. Not that it would do any good; hardly anyone has seen them. Plus, I'm not one to get starstruck.

A X-Files crew member was electrocuted while filming a scene for the new season; sadly, they died. I sure hope this is not some sort of portent about how the whole season is going to go!

Check out Radio Tuner to listen to your local radio station online or listen to a station half way around the world!

I'm a sucker for online calculators. Here are some from PHYS.com that can measure your BMI, body fat percentage, ideal weight, and more.

On Sunday night CBS played a movie called The Inheritance. It was based on the recently discovered first novel (She wrote it when she was only 17!) of Lousia May Alcott by the same name. The movie was ok, it sparked my interest in reading the book. When I was younger, she was one of my favorite authors. Her writing is pure and just the thing for a young teen girl.

Napster stays -- for now, at least! I am so glad :)

Before I knew Napster was not going to be shut down, I went in search of alternatives. I'd heard of Gnutella, so I downloaded that. I haven't taken the time to really figure it out. It doesn't seem too hard, but I definitely prefer Napster, although you can use Gnutella to download all types of multimedia instead of just MP3s. I also discovered HeardOn.com, a site something like MP3.com.

They're making The Lord of The Rings Trilogy into three movies. Elijah Wood is going to be playing Frodo. Yep, I'm sure he can play a hobbit. Heh.

Breaking news: Concorde Crashes In Paris: 113 dead. This is the first time one of the supersonic Concords have crashed.

All bacteria is not necessarily bad for you. I've known this for quite a while. I'm glad I was a little child in the 80s and early 90s; we rolled around in the dirt and mud as much as we liked and my parents weren't fanatical about keeping clean. Sheesh, what fun is it to be a kid (or an adult) if you can't get dirty every once in a while?!

Planning on travelling internationally? Then you'll want to check out MedicinePlanet.com to brush up on the quality of local health care, local diseases, available immunizations (if any), and the contact information for all known hospitals in the area you plan to visit.

I understand Third World countries needing aid for food, schooling, and health care; yet, the G-8 want to give them money for getting online? I think that should be last on the list of what the money needs to be used for!

I just took The World's Smallest Political Quiz My results say that my political views are "centrist." The definition of that being: "Centrists favor selective government intervention and emphasize practical solutions to current problems. They tend to keep an open mind on new issues. Many centrists feel that government serves as a check on excessive liberty." That sounds accurate, although I consider myself a Libertarian

Stephen King's ebook Riding the Bullet, released in April, was so successful that it has publishers worrying about whether they're going to put out of business by electronic publishing. Do you think you could make it out in the wild? Take the Survivor Quiz and see. I got seven out of ten: I'm a survivor! :) One thing I did learn about: The Universal Ediblity Test.

America's Library. I heard about this site from a TV commercial. It's rather cool, although I think it's mainly intended for children, judging from the language used. Yet, if the statistics on American illiteracy are correct, then it's probably intended for everyone. Interesting interal link: What Was In Lincoln's Pocket?

Greg was kicked of the island on Survivor last night. I wasn't expecting that; I really thought Jenna was the next to go! Greg was one of my favorites; he was crazy -- in a likable way :)

One thing I've noticed on Survivor: The women's legs seem to beshaved and it looks as if they are able to pluck their eyebrows . So, do they have razors and tweezers--maybe even makeup artists? Should that even be allowed? Well, it's TV: Too many people would probably freak out if they were walking around with hairy legs and scruffy eyebrows. Argh, men have it too easy!!

My Local Weather -- It's hot, and I mean HOT! (91 degrees, heat index is 99 degress and it's only 10:15AM!) I guess I should expect it, living in south Texas; but every year winter comes along and lulls me into forgetfullness, then comes summer and WHAM the heat and humidity slam me in the face. It's funny to me that in other places it's considered hot when it gets into the middle 80s. I'd be in heaven if it only got into the middle 80s for the high here. We've been nearing 100 every day for the last few weeks. Hmm, but I guess compared to a few other places in the country, it's not too bad. At least I have air-conditioning!

I haven't blogged any personal pages in a long time, because so many of them seem shallow and like clones of each other. I've been keeping a journal since I was 13 (Almost 7 years -- all ready!) And sometimes, I get in a rut when writing. So, I decided to do some researching on ideas for journalling. The best site I found was Journals@About.com. There are links to practically hundreds of sites, most of them quite useful. If you'd like to interact with other people about keeping a journal, I recommend that you sign up for the Journal Writing mailing list. I signed up a few weeks ago and everyone is extremely friendly.

I just discovered a really cool site: DailyRating.com. When I first went to the site, I didn't quite "get it," but then I signed up and surfed the site a bit more. You can use the site as a sort of journal, divided into questions like: "How Was Your Day?" "How Much Sleep Did You Get Last Night?"; but those are just the generic questions. You can create your own questions, which you can ask only yourself or have other people answer also. It might sound a bit convoluted, but just check it out and you may like it.

Sometimes I think Martha Stewart has the perfect job: She gets to make delicious food (with all those useful gadgets), mess around in her garden whenever she wants, make useless crafts, and hobnob with celebrities. But then I think: Who wants to be that perfect? I certainly am not a perfectionist, so I probably would end up just making a mess of everything.

WebRadio.com rocks!

I was just thinking about the olympics and how back in '96 when they were held in Atlanta, the media was all over the story. Yet, this year I've hardly heard anything about them. I guess that shows how xenophobic America really is and how, if we can't make money off something, we're just not going to pay attention to it.

I was finally able to get to the library yesterday and I checked out 9 books. Yes, I am a bookworm! ;)
I've been to many sites who's owners said that Bridget Jones's Diary was definitely worth reading, so I checked it out. I'm almost done reading it. It's one of the more unusual books that I've read: It's definitely entertaining, with many funny parts; but I find that the main character's lack of self-esteem and respect rather low for someone who is ostensibly a feminist.

Last night on NBC, they played three episodes of Freeks and Geeks. Does that mean the show is coming back? I sure hope so! If not, it's really not fair to get our hopes up. It's the only "teen" show I ever watched, because it was actually funny and I could relate to the Lindsey character a lot [I've even been told that we kind of look alike!]

I'm not sure how I came across this site, but it's an interesting idea: Patchwork Girl. On the site, they have a hand drawn cartoon girl and they invite the visitors to give her a history. There aren't too many contributions yet, so if you want to get involved, this would be a good time!

Yahoo! has a whole news category about the death penalty debate. I'm definitely doing to be checking it out on a regular basis. [I'm anti-death penalty, if you didn't all ready know.]

Speaking of the death penalty, I just saw The Green Mile for the first time last night. I thought it was an interesting movie, not boring at all; but it is a long movie: about three-and-a-half hours. It kind of reminded me of an X-Files episode certain ways.

ByeBye, Elian. Hope you enjoyed your stay.

It's summer, it's hot, you're bored, and there are only reruns of the X-Files on TV. Time to catch up on the X-Files Conspiracy Time Line! Yep, I'm an X-Phile ;)

I've thought about creating a fictional journal, just because I don't think my life is so interesting that anyone would want to read about it. Well, it seems that someone has beaten me to and and started a fiction collective. From what I've read, it seems interesting and I'm thinking of joining.

News discovery: ForwardSlash.net -- I have a feeling I'm going to be visiting this site often.

02:12 a.m - I love to read, but haven't been able to get to the library or book store in a long time, so whenever I find good fiction on the web, I'm truly happy. It turns out that SciFi.com, The Science Fiction Channel's website, has a fiction section that's updated weekly with original fiction and classics.

Revolver Magazine -- Anything that has Jim Morrison on the cover has to be cool, right? I'll have to see if I can get a copy.

Report Tells of AIDS Devastation: "AIDS is expected to decimate up to half the teen-age population in the hardest-hit African countries..."
This is awful! Sometimes it's so easy to forget how much we benefit from living in a prosperous country.

New weblog discovery: Pop Culture Junk Mail

This is a little too much, don't you think? Although, I might go to court if someone tried to take my cat away from me . . .

Everyone's getting offended lately. I think it's time to lighten up ;)

For some reason, the picture for issue 11 of Inkblot reminds me of the 60s. Now I'm going to have to write a story for it!

I've always found The Free Site to be useful, but now that it's gotten a make-over, I like it even better.

I hardly ever watch the Tonight Show, but I did last night; specifically because Mark Wahlberg was a guest. I've got to see The Perfect Storm! Ah, eye candy. Heh ;) Oh, and Splender was the music guest. They're rather good.

Name generators are fun: My rap name is Mad Buggy Homie [LoL!]. Find yours. [link via TDT]

While searching for information on the Human Genome Project, I came across Year2067.com, a " Future & Emerging Technologies e-Magazine". It's all about robotics, cryonics, nanotechnology, the human genome, virtual reality and more. (Sounds like an episode of The X-Files!) The information covered is extremely interesting; yet I find it ironic that the design of the site is so very basic. It seems to me that people interested in the future would like their website to be on the cutting edge.

Whenever I get tired of American news sources, I head over to the BBC news site. Their's seems so much more interesting, but maybe that's because I'm unused to the style of reporting.

I know summer is in full swing by now, but if you're still looking for a summer job, you might want to check out CoolJobs.com. They list hundreds of interesting jobs, many of them seasonal, the perfect kind for students.

Interested in using an online dating service? Well, Lorna's been there, done that and has created a website to feature her experiences. I personally wouldn't use an online dating service, but, as they say, "whatever floats your boat"! :)

Get free music, just for filling out surveys at ElementUSA.com. Tell them that Rainn sent you, please! This is not a scam: I've received two CDs from them all ready.

12:30 a.m. - I've been surfing a lot of Pitas lately, and I've found that there are a lot of new and interesting ones since I checked last. Here are some of the new (well, new to me, at least) pitas that I've enjoyed: BlueLog ; Ordinary ; Toaster ; Marmalade
[yeah, I'm 'blogging weblogs. Oh, well :) ]

I've been receiving quite a few hits from Unknown News, which is cool with me. I love obscure and weird stuff! :)

New journal discovery: Hey Jane, Remember Second Grade?

EZinesToday.com -- This is a really cool site if you're into reading ezines, which I am. There's one problem though: Why do they have to use size one font? I absolutely hate it when I have to squint to read a website!

Some cultures are so foreign to what we in the West believe. It would be hell on earth for me to be sold and owned: Women are so much more than commodities!

It's weird the sites you can come across while trying to type in a certain URL. I was planning on typing in xenith.net, the URL to an e/webzine, but mistakenly typed in xenith.com, which brought me to The Church of Eugenics. They have a picture of Bill Gates as a cyborg on their main page! Overall, the site is really odd. They want to base a religion on science. Aren't those two things antithetical?

03:38 a.m. - My 'blogging has really slowed down, I know. "Real life" beckons; but, hey, I took the time to create a new layout :)

Ever wonder what happened to the stars from your favorite sitcoms after they went off the air? See them today.

Katie just started a weblog. There's not much there yet, but if it's anything like her journal, it should be cool.

LibrarySpot.com -- I love sites like this: They have so much information!
